The regular-season games have been played, and the participants for the bowl games have been decided. Now the exciting part begins! The Mercedes-Benz Superdome is home to two of this season’s hottest college bowl games, starting with the legendary Allstate Sugar Bowl. Kicking off its 78th showdown of the finest teams in college football, the Superdome will once again be rocking as the Virginia Tech Hokies face the Michigan Wolverines on January 3, 2012. Representing the ACC and Big Ten conferences respectively, these two football powerhouses will be putting on a show that no football fan will want to miss.
Still smarting from a crushing defeat by the Clemson Tigers in the ACC title game, Virginia Tech will be ready to pick up the Sugar Bowl crown and end its season on a high note. Featuring a stout defense, the Hokies will be slight favorites to knock off the Wolverines and their high-flying offense, led by quarterback, Denard Robinson. Michigan is considered somewhat of a surprise pick since it was Michigan State that reached the Big Ten title game before falling to the Wisconsin Badgers. That said, Michigan won’t be apologizing for earning the invite, and it will be determined to upend the Hokies in this classic battle.
This game represents a battle of two teams currently on different levels of success. Frank Beamer’s Hokies have made the BCS their playground while Brady Hoke’s Wolverines look to regain the magic of the Bo Schembechler era that made them one of the most feared college football programs during the 1970s and 80s. Both teams will lay it on the line at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on January 3rd, as they look to finish strong and leave New Orleans with the championship trophy of the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
